George's Background

I'm a second generation tree worker, and a licensed Arborist in the State of CT.  After serving four years in the United States Marine Corps, and a brief recall for Desert Storm service,  I working in the landscaping field while attending an electrician program.  Then while working as an electrician's apprentice I started going back to school for horticulture.  This is where I developed my passion for trees and shrubs.  I enjoyed being outdoors and "touching" trees daily.  The biology of trees and the challenges of diagnosing problems and implementing remediation steps was intriguing to me.  In the early 90's after leaving the electrical field I became self-employed as a tree worker.  Soon after I completed my degree in Horticulture I passed the State of CT Arborist examination process.  I also earned my qualification as an Ornamental & Turf Supervisory license holder, which allowed me to offer tick and carpenter ant control services.  Both licenses are regulated by the State of CT DEEP (Dept. of Environment and Energy)

At about the same time my daughter Danielle was born, and soon after Tyler and Madison.  For about 18 years I enjoyed being an arborist and taking care of trees for people in and around Cheshire.  The kids kept growing as fast as the trees did!  How does time go by so fast as we look back?

In 2010,   I experienced some major life changes and decided to work full-time for The United Illuminating Company and to offer tree care services on a part-time basis.  Within a couple of years I completed a degree in business management that I was working on and was hired as UI's Transmission Vegetation Management Lead (Arborist).  I am currently enrolled in Albertus Magnus's Master of Arts in Leadership, which upon completion will allow me to teach horticulture evenings at a local college.

In 2015,  I left UI to work again for myself as an arborist in and around Cheshire.  I can honestly say that it has been great reconnecting with former customers and their trees.  There is something about working in a smaller community that I enjoy thoroughly,  especially running into familiar faces!
